This story is cute and rather touching, without being at all morbid. Actually, the contrary is true. I suggest this book for both its cultural value but even more to comfort a child who has lost a love one (or soon will). Felipa y el Día de los Muertos is appropriate for younger Spanish speaking 6-9 year olds or second year Spanish learners (a lot of imperfect and preterite, normal level vocabulary) of any age.
